Fear. Does It Control You?

Updated: Jul 22, 2021

There are few things in this world that we all have in common. And whether we want to admit it or not. Generally speaking, fear is one of them. While the cause of said fear, for each person, maybe different. Fear in itself is something that is an unwelcome guest in our heart & mind. For the most part, we do a pretty, good job at keeping our fears tucked away. Kept secret in the dark spaces of our mind. But, what happens when our worst fears become a reality? That is when our strength is truly tested.

For some, the thought of starting something new is just that. An internal test of strength. Will I have what it takes to do this? If we are lacking the necessary motivation needed. We may find ourselves succumbing to doubt. Just the very thought of failure may be enough to keep you from taking the next step. Because what's more terrifying than the unknown. But, how do we take back control? Finding a balance of what is truly realistic & what may be for now, unattainable.

Taking Back Control

Well, the only way to gain control over any fear is to face it. But, that's easier said than done, isn't it? The first thing you need to realize when it comes to taking a step towards achieving any goal is that you don't have to do it alone. We don't have to know all the answers to life's problems. And you will probably find that life is much more enjoyable when you are surrounded by people who are supporting you and cheering you on. Of course, not everyone naturally has those circumstances. But, today I'm offering you the opportunity to take your health and fitness into your own hands. This process will highlight your personal reasons for wanting to improve your health. And help you take realistic steps towards achieving that goal.

Identify Your Goals

Once, you decide you're ready to begin your journey to improve your health. One of the first things you will need to do is, quantify your goals. Write them down & be specific. Don't just say, "I want to eat healthier". Instead, you can say, "I want to eat a vegetable with every meal". Now, you have a precise goal that you can recognize clearly when you have achieved it. Typically, it's better to start off small, with just one or two goals initially. That way you don't quickly become overwhelmed & lose motivation if you're not able to achieve all the goals you set, in a reasonable amount of time. Let's be real. We tend to have the mindset that we expect to see results quickly. Especially, if we have been very strict with our diet & exercise routine. How can we avoid this pitfall?

Broaden Your Horizon

In addition to setting a few specific & realistic goals, it is also important to write down your reasons for wanting to achieve said goals. Why? Well, let's say it's day 3 of your new health journey. It's the end of the workday. You're tired, hangry, and wondering why in the world you thought this was a good idea. But, when you take time to reflect on what truly brought you to this place. It may prove to be the saving grace in your moment of weakness. Taking a step back to imagine yourself walking down the aisle in your wedding gown. Or step onto the beach and not having to feel insecure about your body. Maybe, it's as simple as wanting to be better for yourself. Whatever the reason. Let that be the motivating factor to keep you moving forward. Don't forget, this is your journey.

Accepting Help

Like I said earlier, it's easy to say I want to do this or that. But, not always quite as easy to execute the process fully.
